Every marker varies a little from one blood test to the next, even when nothing about your health has changed: the time of day, what you ate, how the sample was handled. Studies of healthy people measure how much. For this marker it's about 16.9% within one person (Ozkanay et al., Scandinavian Journal of Clinical and Laboratory Investigation 2023 Nov 14 (EFLM BV database)). Adding a typical lab's measuring error, a move smaller than about 52% between two draws is within that normal wobble. Only a bigger move is likely a real change, so that's the only kind Helse calls “better” or “worse.”Research note · randomised trial · Vaucher trial, CMAJ 2012: In a randomised trial of 198 menstruating women with unexplained fatigue, ferritin under 50 µg/L and normal haemoglobin, 12 weeks of daily oral iron lowered fatigue scores more than placebo did (a 47.7% fall against 28.8%); quality of life, mood and anxiety showed no significant difference.

One blood test can land a little above or below your usual level for reasons that aren't about your health — for this test, within about ±37%. That's its published variation — Ozkanay et al., Scandinavian Journal of Clinical and Laboratory Investigation 2023 Nov 14 (EFLM BV database) — plus a typical lab's measuring error. So close to a line, one result can't say which side your usual level is on, and the colours mix in proportion to how likely each side is. Further from a line, the colour is clear.- 19 May 202641 ng/mLNormalLab range 15–150
